Two New York Transportation Partners Awarded EPA Grants to Reduce Emissions with Clean Diesel School Buses

January 26, 2015, Deposit, N.Y. – Leonard Bus Sales would like to congratulate Northern Adirondack Central School District and Rolling V Bus Corporation for being selected by the Environmental Protection Agency to receive grants that will reduce emissions by transitioning from older buses to new, clean diesel buses.

This fall, Leonard Bus Sales helped spread the word about the EPA’s 2014 School Bus Replacement Funding Opportunity, which are part of the Diesel Emission Reduction Program (DERA). Seventy-six fleets across the nation were selected by lottery from close to 1000 applicants to share the $3 million in funding.

“The DERA grant program helps our transportation partners reduce emissions as we often advise, by replacing their decade old buses with new, clean diesel buses,” said Mike Leonard, CEO of Leonard Bus Sales. “Today’s clean diesel buses are 20 times cleaner than the buses of ten years ago, and now operate with near zero emissions. Each time we help a partner replace a decade old bus with a new, clean diesel one, we help improve the efficiency of their entire fleet.”

The Diesel Emission Reduction Act was reauthorized in January 2011 with a significant change, allowing the EPA to award rebates toward new buses. Compared to just a decade ago, today’s clean diesel buses have more efficient engines, more effective emissions control technology, and also now run on ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel.
