Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Senior Wins Leonard Bus Sales School Bus Art Competition: Receives Scholarship

Saratoga Springs, NY, January 3, 2019 –Leonard Bus Sales recently announced that Alisa Mazon, a senior at Burnt Hills – Ballston Lake Central School District has won the company’s inaugural A Day in the Life of a School Bus Art Competition.  As the winner of the competition, Alisa will receive a $1,000 one-time higher-education scholarship from Leonard Bus Sales for her original artwork depicting a day in the life of a school bus.

Leonard Bus Sales presented the scholarship to Alisa at the Burnt Hills – Ballston Lake Central School District.  Alisa’s mother, Julie Winkler, was in attendance along with Alisa’s Art teacher, Mrs. Wendy Corrigan, the school’s Director of Transportation Joseph Czub, and Superintendent Dr. Patrick McGrath.

“On behalf of the entire Leonard Bus Sales team, we just want to say congratulations to Alisa and thank her for creating such a beautiful and interesting piece of artwork,” said Leonard Bus Sales Director of Business Integration, Stacey Bruce.  “Alisa is a talented young artist and created a piece of artwork that truly captures the essence of a day in the life of a school bus.  We are proud that her drawing will be framed and hung in our facilities and school districts around the state for years to come.”

Leonard Bus Sales launched its annual art competition to inspire and recognize young artists in high schools across New York State.  A Day in the Life of a School Bus Art Competitionrequires participating juniors and seniors to artistically depict a day in the life of a school bus and select either an IC BusTMor Trans Tech brand school bus as the subject – the two brands that are sold and supported by Leonard Bus Sales.

Alisa’s drawing was a unique perspective of the daily duties of a school bus, which showcased the inside of an IC Bus brand CE Series school bus being driven by her mother, who is a school bus driver in a neighboring school district.  The colorful and detailed artwork gives viewers a sense of being inside the school bus as it approaches a student for a morning ride to school.

Alisa’s drawing, which was done in ballpoint pen with different color ink, was chosen from among the many works of art which were submitted by students from across the state.  When asked about the medium she chose to create the artwork, Alisa laughingly said that she chose ballpoint pen because all her painting supplies were being used on a mural she is doing in one of the classrooms at Burnt Hills – Ballston Lake Central School District.  Alisa’s Art teacher, Mrs. Corrigan said that she is amazed how driven Alisa is with her art and that she was very impressed with the amount of detail in the drawing.

In addition to a $1,000 one-time scholarship paid directly to the educational institution that Alisa will attend, her drawing will be framed and put on display in the Burnt Hills – Ballston Lake Central School District’s transportation department.  Alisa’s drawing will also be made into professional prints and shared with school districts and school bus enthusiasts across the state.
