November 24, 2014, Deposit, N.Y. – Leonard Bus Sales would like to thank Galway CSD School Bus Driver Chuck Dzegiel for his bravery and heroism.
In March of this year, Chuck had just dropped off the last students on his route when the unthinkable happened — a pickup truck crossed the center line and struck his school bus head-on.
Inside the pickup was a young father and his 7-month old son. Another Good Samaritan rushed to pull the baby out when the pickup burst into flames. With the baby safe, Chuck ran to the driver’s side and pulled the injured man from the burning vehicle. The truck was completely destroyed by the fire, and the bus was also totaled. But everyone involved in the accident was safe thanks to Chuck’s quick thinking and bravery.
Earlier this month, the National Association for Pupil Transportation recognized Chuck Dzegiel with its NAPT Heroism Award at a Summit in Kansas City, Missouri. Presenting the award to Chuck was Bluebird Senior Vice President Dale Wendell.
