April 26, 2016, Saratoga, N.Y. – Members of the Leonard Bus Sales team attended Operation Safe Stop Education and Enforcement Day events across the state with local NYAPT chapters to help make drivers aware of the dangers associated with illegally passing a stopped school bus.
The Governor’s Office of Traffic Safety and the New York Association for Pupil Transportation sponsor Operation Safe Stop events and enforcement activities all across New York State.

Operation Safe Stop is an annual statewide public education and enforcement campaign geared towards making drivers aware of the importance of not passing a stopped school bus. Law enforcement across New York participate in Operation Safe Stop. Police officers will be riding on school buses, and patrolling in marked and unmarked police cars to crack down on drivers who illegally pass a stopped school bus.
Leonard continued, “We hope that drivers across the state will hear our message today and exercise extra caution when they see a yellow school bus, especially when the lights are flashing red. We also want to thank our friends at the New York Association for Pupil Transportation for organizing this very important public awareness event.”
Police will be issuing tickets to drivers who pass stopped school buses in accordance with Section 1174 of the Vehicle & Traffic Law. All violations are reported to one central command post so that the data can be reported to state and local officials.
