Congratulations to Faye Stevens on receiving the 25th Art Schock Award

Congratulations to Faye Stevens, Transportation Supervisor at the Indian River Central School District on receiving the 25th Art Schock Award for 2007.

The purpose of this award is to recognize a NYAPT member who best exemplifies the character and qualities Art Schock epitomized, using involvement and sharing to improve pupil transportation.

Faye has been in the “yellow bus business” for about 20 years, starting as a bus driver and gaining industry experience in BOCES and school districts. She has earned the titles of 19-A Certified Examiner, SBDI, Accident Investigator and Master Instructor. She is a member of the NYAPT board, was a major contributor in the total revision of the PTSI 19-A CE Course curriculum, and has chaired or served on important statewide committees, including Special Needs, Special Needs Road-eo, SBDI-MI, Professional Development, Operation Safe Stop and Bus Safety Camp. Faye has shared safety knowledge by contributing well-written articles to the Schock Absorber.

As an SBDI and later an MI, she shares great enthusiasm in assisting both rookie and veteran instructors to get the bus safety message out. These pointers include master-level tips on using modern presentation technology. She developed a first-of-its-kind program for training bus attendants, a curriculum later used as a statewide model.

Faye is very deserving to join the ranks of those before her to be awarded the Art Schock Award, who have also openly shared their passion and drive to make school buses safer for young riders.
